  Tryouts for 2007-08 SPU Cheer

When: TBA

Where: Brougham Pavilion

How: Tryouts consist of a written component, brief interview and an evening session of learning routines and a final session of performing routines before a panel of judges.

Informational Meeting: TBA

Who Are We: The SPU Cheer Squad is an all-girl squad of 15 cheerleaders who lead sideline cheers and perform dance routines at basketball halftimes and timeouts. Hip-hop, pom and jazz are incorporated into the various performances. The squad also supports selected other SPU athletic events.

Team structure: Seattle Pacific's cheer squad operates as an ASSP club rather than an athletics program. Squad leaders for 2007-08 are captains Julia Dusseau and Roxy Warren.

Season: Practices and performances are ongoing from October through March. Practices are held three times per week, Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8-10 a.m, and one evening per week.

Time commitment: Squad members practice up to eight hours per week and, once basketball season begins, there is an additional four hours of performing. In addition to home games, the cheer members travel to games at Seattle University, Western Washington, Central Washington and other nearby venues. They also attend a private UCA collegiate cheer camp on campus one weekend in October.

Uniform: Squad members are responsible for purchasing uniforms ($300), however there is a spring cheer clinic for girls ages 6-12 which serves as a fundraiser, and the athletic department subsidizes expenses as well.
