SEATTLE – It's a serious time of the year for Seattle Pacific cross country runners as they start thinking about regionals. But there's also some time for fun, and that will be the focus of this Saturday's Varsity-Alumni Event at Green Lake.
The race is open to anyone, and will be one loop of the 2.78-mile path around the lake. It starts at 10 a.m. in front of the crew house (near the restrooms) at the southwest corner of the lake. Runners should plan to be at the starting line by 9:45.
In the spirit of the Halloween holiday, runners are invited to compete in costumes. Prizes will be awarded for the best individual costumes (male and female) and the best group costume.
Prizes also will be awarded to the top overall male and female finisher, and to those who finish closest to their predicted time. Racing flats, training shoes, baby joggers and family pets are welcome.
Apple cider and other goodies will be available after the event near the finish line. In the event of rain, those treats will be available at the covered picnic shelter in nearby Lower Woodland Park.
More information is available by contacting SPU cross country coach Erika Daligcon at (206) 281-3432, or e-mail her at
