SEATTLE -- Freshman Krysta Carrick covered the 6-kilometer course at Lower Woodland Park in 25 minutes, 56 seconds on Saturday morning, finishing 18th overall and leading Seattle Pacific to a third-place finish in the Emerald City Invitational.
The Falcons, competing with their younger runners while the veterans had a day off following last week's Stanford Invitational, totaled 85 points. The University of Washington, also competing with some of its non-varsity athletes, won with a perfect score of 15, and Seattle University was second with 47.
Carrick (Tokyo, Japan) was well in front of the SPU pack on Saturday. Freshman Laura Moser (Sequim, Wash./Sequim HS.) was second across the line for the Falcons, taking 23rd overall in 26:47. Then it was a group of three SPU runners right in a row: Freshman Lauren Wood (Parker, Colo.) 26th in 27:01; sophomore Kayla Wilkins (Vancouver, Wash./Evergreen HS) 27th in 27:18; and sophomore Margaret Hanscom (Lake Oswego, Ore.) 28th in 27:32.
Most of those same Falcons will return to action next Saturday in Bellingham at the Western Washington Invitational. The meet in Lake Padden Park begins at 10:30 a.m.
