SEATTLE -- Four Seattle Pacific women’s soccer players were honored, including a trio of first-team selections, when the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Far West Region squad was announced Monday.
SPU seniors Jocelyn Charette (Lakewood, Wash./Curtis HS) and Janae Godoy (Yakima, Wash./West Valley HS) were joined on the first team by defender Taylor Sawyer (Gig Harbor, Wash./North Mason HS), who was one of only two freshmen among the 24 Far West region all-stars.
Charette, a forward, amassed 15 goals and seven assists for the Falcons and was named the 2009 Great Northwest Athletic Conference player of the year.
Godoy, a midfielder, had a goal and five assists. She played 92 career games at SPU, including the 2008 NCAA Division II championship contest against West Florida that she ended with a 108th-minute golden goal.
Sawyer anchored a defense that surrendered 0.51 goals per game. She was sidelined four games due to an injury and the Falcons definitely missed her. SPU yielded six goals in the 17 games Sawyer played while allowing five during the four games she was absent.
Junior forward Amanda Johnson (Duvall, Wash./Cedarcrest HS) was a second-team selection to the all-region team. She compiled three goals and five assists before sitting out the Falcons’ final six games with an injury.
SPU won the GNAC title with a 9-2-1 league mark. The Falcons finished with a 16-3-2 overall record after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Chico State, which won the penalty kick tiebreaker 4-3 after a scoreless regulation and overtime.
