Throughout the summer, the Seattle Pacific sports information team will pose a question to various Falcon athletes.
What are you doing this summer?
Jocelyn Charette
Women's soccer
I'm in Los Angeles playing soccer on a W-League team. The team is amazing in that I am playing with other Christians and strengthening my soccer skills as well as my faith. All the girls on this team are passionate about Christ or seeking to build a relationship with him. Since I am staying right on the beach, I have been doing my fitness workouts in the sand. On off days, I surf and plan to get some jobs off of craigslist.
Justin Felt
Men's track and field
I'm planning to work full-time with my dad installing sprinkler systems. But more than that, I'm planning to just relax whenever I can. I'll go fishing many times (and already have), go swimming, go to the coast, go hunting, go hiking, play many sports, and lift weights frequently.
Daesha Henderson
Women's basketball
I'll be working basketball camps, training, and just relaxing in the sun.
Jane Larson
Women's cross country/track
I'll be doing large amounts of running, which I'm actually very excited about. I'm looking forward to sailing with my family for a week in July and running in the San Juan Islands and also counseling at Falcon Running camp. I also will be nannying a bit, and I'm blessed to be doing an internship with the Christian non-profit organization World Vision in Federal Way two days a week. I'm working as a writing intern on their Net.Work Media team. I'm so excited to be a part of an organization that seeks to bring Christ's mercy and love to children in need all over the world. All in all, it looks to be a fantastic summer.
Chad Meis
Men's cross country/track
I'm working as a full-time electrical engineering intern with Korry Electronics, a company located by Lake Union that manufactures LED switches and control panels for commercial and military aircraft. This is both a fulfillment of my electrical engineering major requirements for SPU, as well as a solid summer job. I'm also working weekends at Super Jock 'n Jill, the running store near Green Lake. There's not a ton of time for sleeping or playing.
Joelle Perez
Volleyball
I'm working out, coaching in some high school volleyball camps, and going to my cabin in Montana for a week. I'll also be taking summer school.
Carter Swanson
Men's rowing
I received an awesome internship doing molecular biology work for a biotech company in Boulder, Colo. The internship has been a great complement to my studies over the last few years. I'm learning a ton and really enjoying the change of pace from the school year. I even have my own cubicle for when I'm not in the lab, and I'm accumulating from friends quite an impressive garden of cacti and other easy-maintenance plants to adorn it. I'm from Denver originally, so I have really enjoyed seeing friends and family in what little spare time I have when I'm not working.
Laura Willis
Gymnastics
I live in Temecula, about an hour north of San Diego. Some of the plans I have are to work, practice gymnastics, and go to the beach and enjoy the sun. I'm also planning to join a service group with my church. Being a student-athlete can be very tiring, so I hope to have some time to relax and enjoy the time off from school.
Andy Wolverton
Men's soccer
(Wolverton sent the following note to the Sports Information department):
I'm sorry I haven't responded sooner. Ironically, I actually have been spending the first few weeks of my summer backpacking Europe, and haven't been able to check e-mail. I'm actually in an Internet café in Amsterdam right now, and I don't have a lot of time remaining before I get kicked off. So I can't respond to your questions right now, but I will be able to when I get back to the U.S. around July 7th.
