SEATTLE – Chad Meis, a Seattle Pacific junior who was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase this spring, has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team.

Meis (Renton, Wash./Seattle Christian HS), an electrical engineering major, has a 3.44 grade-point average heading into his senior year.

One of SPU’s standouts on the cross country trails and in the distance events for track, Meis took up the steeplechase this past season, and it quickly became a good fit. In just his second try at it, he clocked a provisional time of 9 minutes, 20.38 seconds on March 21 at the Sacramento State Hornet Invite.

Meis became the ninth Falcon to be named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic squad. On Monday, Jessica Pixler was honored as the Division II Scholar Athlete of the Year for indoor track, and was joined on the team by junior Lisa Anderberg, senior Kelsey Burns, junior Kate Harline, junior Jane Larson, sophomore Jennifer Pike, senior Jeeni Schantin and senior Lauren VerMulm.

To earn a spot on the All-Academic team, student-athletes must have cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and must have posted an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark.
