SEATTLE -- Brittany Aanstad’s comeback is just getting started. But she already has come a long way.

The Seattle Pacific sophomore, back in action this season for the first time since the spring of 2008 after having a ligament in her elbow replaced, racked up an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying total in the pentathlon at the UW Invitational on Friday.

Aanstad (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) finished with a career-high 3,307 points, good for eighth place among the 23 competitors at the Dempsey Indoor facility on the University of Washington campus. That topped her previous career-best of 3,154, set in the UW Open at Dempsey in 2008. The NCAA II provisional qualifying minimum is 3,300 points. The automatic total is 3,800.

Aanstad’s performance in the five events included a provisional qualifying mark of 5 feet, 3¾ inches (1.67 meters) in the high jump, meeting that standard right on the money. It gave her a tie for fourth place and 818 points in that event, her best finish of the night.

In the other four events, Aanstad was 10th in the 800 meters (2:33.41 for 634 points), 12th in the shot put (32 feet, 8½ inches, worth 527 points), 14th in the long jump (16-10¾, good for 601 points), and 21st in the 60-meter hurdles (10.01 seconds, 710 points).

Falcon junior Jennifer Pike (Vancouver, Wash./Skyview HS) placed 16th overall with 3,043 points. Her best event was a fifth-place finish in the 800, as she won her individual heat in 2:26.49, picking up 738 points.

SPU junior Chrystal Sims (Portland, Ore.) was 19th with 2,983 points. Her total included 571 points for a fifth-place finish in the shot put at 34 feet, 10½ inches.

Freshman Nate Johnson (Boise, Idaho) competed in the men’s heptathlon. His top finish through the first four events was 19th in the shot put at 32-10¾, picking up 505 points. The remaining three events -- 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000 meters -- are Saturday.

The second day and final day of competition is Saturday at Dempsey Indoor, with running events starting at 9 a.m. and field events at 10 a.m.
