SEATTLE – Laura Zasly scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds, and twin sister Katie Zasly added 14 points and five boards, and Notre Dame de Namur went on a 10-2 run midway through the second half to beat Central Washington in the Falcons Invitational women's basketball tournament on Thursday night, 67-55.
The Argonauts (3-6) came back from Wednesday's 70-51 loss to host Seattle Pacific to gain a split of their two tournament games in Brougham Pavilion.
Central Washington (5-4), which scored a 72-61 victory against St. Edward's of Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, also went home with a split.
Sophie Russell and Amber Moser scored 15 points apiece for the Wildcats. Moser made it a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Argonauts of Belmont, Calif., were deadlocked at 47-47 when they started their decisive run. They kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard for 5 minutes, 7 seconds, and their defense forced Central into an 0-for-13 cold spell from the field.
Central Washington finally got back onto the board on a jumper by Sophie Russell with 5:37 left to make it 55-49. But Notre Dame Namur never let the Wildcats get closer than that six-point margin the rest of the way.
The Argonauts raced to a 17-6 lead, and extended it to 12 points at 25-13 with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
That's when Central Washington started to climb back into the game. The Wildcats put together a 13-5 run, cutting the Argonauts' lead to 30-28 with 2:05 left. Katie Zasly then came up with a steal and went coast to coast for the lay-in, and followed that with a 3-pointer from the left of the lane, helping Notre Dame de Namur take a 35-31 lead into halftime.
Emkly Vore chipped 11 points, and Natalia Saia tallied 10 for NDNU.
Notre Dame de Namur shot 38.3 percent for the game (23 of 60), and got a big boost at the foul line, hitting 17 of 22.
Central Washington hit just 28.9 percent from the floor (22 of 76) and went to the line just eight times, hitting five.
