SEATTLE – Terra Schumacher, who posted a conference-best mark in the women’s pole vault and earned a spot on the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying list, has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for women’s indoor track.

Schumacher (Sublimity, Ore.) is in her first year with the Falcons after transferring from Mount Hood Community College in Oregon. On Sunday at the Pilot Indoor at the University of Portland, Schumacher cleared 11 feet, 6 inches (3.50 meters) to win the event and meet the D-2 provisional qualifying standard right on the mark.

She had done the pole vault on one previous occasion this winter, going 11-1 in the season-opening UW Indoor Preview on Jan. 16. Her 11-6 now stands as the best performance this season for SPU. She also has the team’s leading time of 9.43 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.

Schumacher and the rest of the Falcons will be back in action this weekend at the Husky Classic on Friday and Saturday, and the UW Indoor Open on Sunday, all at Dempsey Indoor on the University of Washington campus.
