SEATTLE -- Before running over to Brougham Pavilion to catch this year's Homecoming basketball games and other festivities, Seattle Pacific students, athletes, alumni and fans can take a run around Green Lake in the second Falcon 5K Fun Run and Walk.

The event is set for Saturday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m. The 3.1-mile route begins near the bathrooms and crew house at the south end of Green Lake, and follows the main path clockwise around the lake.

The cost is $15 and $5 for current SPU students. Kids under age 12 are free. Proceeds will be split between the SPU cross country and track programs, and World Birth Aid, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free, clean birth kits to pregnant women in sub-Saharan Africa who do not have access to clean birthing areas. The organization was started by Yvonne Lerum, wife of Seattle Pacific head track coach Karl Lerum.

T-shirts will be available for $5. Prizes will be awarded after the race.

The Falcon 5K made its first run in the spring of 2009 at Magnuson Park. It shifted to Green Lake last year for Homecoming weekend. That puts it much closer to campus and will allow Falcon fans plenty of time to get back for the hoops doubleheader and the assortment of activities in conjunction with the Homecoming and Family Weekend.
