SEATTLE – Betsy Kingma scored a career-high 14 points to lead a stellar performance by the reserves as Seattle Pacific concluded its non-conference women's basketball schedule on Monday by routing Pacific Lutheran in Brougham Pavilion, 96-46.

The Falcons (7-3) finished with 6-2 record in non-conference games. The scoring output was their highest since a 97-47 home victory over Alaska Fairbanks on Feb. 21, 2009.

SPU's bench players outscored their counterparts, 55-8, including a career-best 13 from Joani Reimer. Reserve Suzanna Ohlsen matched her career-best scoring total of 12, while starters Katie Benson and Nyesha Sims tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Sims recorded a double-double as her 10 boards helped the Falcons out-rebound PLU 57-34. That was Sims' third double-double of the season and the eighth of her career.

“We've been trying to look at each game as an opportunity and use that to build habits to help make us great,” SPU head coach Julie Heisey said. “Tonight, I was really happy – Joani Reimer was out there taking advantage of the opportunity, Suzanna Ohlsen was taking advantage of the opportunity … Top to bottom, it was fun.”

The Lutes (3-5) were led by the 16 points of Samantha Potter.

A total of 10 different players scored during the opening 20 minutes for the Falcons, who built a 48-19 halftime advantage.

SPU jumped out to a 13-2 lead on the strength of tight defense the forced three early turnovers and yielded just one basket in PLU's first 12 shots. The Lutes second score came on a layup by Shelly Kilcup with 13:13 left in the half.

A 16-1 SPU run that featured baskets from six different players, extended the margin to 37-13 with 3:50 left until halftime.

The Lutes started the second half with a 13-8 surge to draw within 56-32. But after Potter capped the run on a jumper with 16:07 left to play, they did not score again for the next 6:50.

Potter's lay-up with 9:17 remaining stopped a streak of 23 consecutive points that gave SPU a 79-32 advantage.

SPU shot 50 percent for the game (40 of 80) while holding the Lutes to 29 percent (20 of 68).

“We set some goals before the game, and we met most all of those goals except for number of forced turnovers,” Heisey said. “Offensive rebounding (18), defensive rebounding (39), points in the paint (62), points off the bench (55), our turnovers were good (a season-low six) – it was a good way to go out.

“Now we have six days off and then we come back and we have work to do.”

The Falcons do not play again until after Christmas when they host Western Oregon on Dec. 29. Tip-off is 7 p.m. in Brougham Pavilion.

SPU has a 1-1 record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference after splitting two road games earlier this month.
