EUGENE, Ore. – Ali Worthen and Katy Gross both tied their personal best in the high jump on Saturday – and the same height, at that.

But Seattle Pacific junior Worthen got there first, and that ultimately gave her first place at the Oregon Preview track and field meet.

Worthen (Coos Bay, Ore.) cleared 5 feet, 5 ¾ inches (1.67 meters) on her initial try, and Falcon sophomore Gross (Everett, Wash./Cascade HS) made it over the bar on her third attempt, thus swinging the tiebreaker in Worthen's favor at Hayward Field.

Katy Gross 2010
Both Worthen and Gross exceeded the automatic-qualifying height of 5-3¼ (1.61 meters) for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship meet. Worthen, who won the GNAC indoor high jump title last month, was competing high jump for the first time this outdoor season. Gross was in that event last week at the Paciflc Lutheran Invitational, clearing 5-2¼ (1.58 meters).

While Worthen was Seattle Pacific's only individual winner, she wasn't the only Falcon delivering a solid performance on Saturday against competition from across all three NCAA divisions, along with NAIA schools and some top-caliber
club teams at Hayward.

Javelin throwers Brittany Aanstad (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) and Carly Andrews (Issaquah, Wash./Issaquah HS) bettered their previous NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks in the javelin.

Aanstad placed second at 143-5 (43.71 meters), just one inch shy of first-place Aria Nojima from Concordia-Portland. Aanstad's mark was 17 inches farther than she threw at the PLU Invitational last Saturday. Andrews wound up seventh at 133-9 (40.76 meters), seven inches farther than her previous personal-best toss of 133-2 on March 5 at the UPS Outdoor Preview.

Terra Schumacher 2010
Junior Terra Schumacher (Sublimity, Ore.) pole vaulted outdoors for the first time in an SPU uniform and promptly put herself onto the GNAC automatic qualifying list with a mark of 11 feet, 1¾ inches (3.40 meters), taking sixth place on Saturday. Schumacher has vaulted indoors the past two winters for the Falcons, with a career-best of 11-6½ (3.52 meters). But an injury kept her from getting into any outdoor meets in 2010.

Sophomore Trinna Miranda (Tigard, Ore.) flew way past career-best in the triple jump on Saturday, taking fifth place at 37 feet, 0½ inches (11.29 meters) for a spot on the conference provisional list, just three-quarters of an inch shy of automatic. Her previous PR was 36-0 (10.97 meters), set just two weeks ago at the UPS Outdoor Preview.

Miranda also led a 4-5-6 Seattle Pacific finish in the long jump, going 16-7¾ (5.07 meters) for GNAC provisional.

Freshman Kishia Mitchell (Puyallup, Wash./Rogers HS) ran third in the 100-meter dash in 12.51 seconds, a GNAC provisional qualifying mark. She added a seventh-place finish in the 200, her time of 25.83 also making GNAC provisional.

Sophomore Emily Quatier (Portland, Ore.) and freshman BryAnne Wochnick (Portland, Ore.) went 5-6 in the 400 meters, Quatier with a GNAC automatic time of 58.46 (although she ran an even faster 57.6 last Saturday at PLU), and Wochnick with a provisional time of 59.07 – barely off the automatic qual clocking of 59.01.

Freshman Alli Cutting (Sequim, Wash./Sequim HS) and junior Heidi Laabs-Johnson (Salt Lake City) both PR'd in the 1,500, Cutting with a 4:42.20 for 10th, and Laabs-Johnson with a 4:55.10 for 23rd. Freshman McKayla Fricker (Canby, Ore.) made her outdoor debut in the 800, placing sixth in a GNAC provisional time of 2:18.90.

Ryan Endresen 2010
Sophomore Ryan Endresen (Portland, Ore.) had yet another strong run in the 400-meter hurdles for the SPU men, winding up third in 54.89 seconds. That's just a quarter of a second shy of his personal-best 54.65. He already was on the GNAC automatic list, and he's now just less than a full second away from the NCAA provisional time of 53.90.

Junior Ray Zoellick (Bothell, Wash./Cedar Park Christian HS) exceeded his outdoor PR in the pole vault by more than a foot and a half. Zoellick cleared 14 feet, 1¼ inches (4.30 meters), way beyond the 12-6 he went last Saturday at PLU. It put him into the GNAC provisional list and is just half an inch short of automatic.

Sophomore Nate Seely (Lynden, Wash./Lynden HS) improved by nearly two seconds to 1:55.94 in the 800 meters, making GNAC provisional.
