FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Wherever there was a missed shot on Thursday night, there also was Nyesha Sims.

The Seattle Pacific senior guard scored 22 points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, and Katie Benson added 17 points, leading Seattle Pacific to an 88-64 Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball blowout of Alaska Fairbanks.

Senior guard Jordan Harazin (Colfax, Wash./Colfax HS) handed out a career-high nine assists for the Falcons (10-3, 4-1 GNAC), who won their fourth straight game heading into Saturday night's showdown at No. 9-ranked Alaska Anchorage. The Seawolves kept their GNAC record perfect on Thursday (4-0) by beating Montana State Billings, 59-50.

Sims (Portland, Ore.) bettered her previous career-high of 13 rebounds, which she had posted three times – twice this season, most recently last Thursday in a 74-51 victory against Western Oregon in Brougham Pavilion. Her 19 boards matched the fifth-highest single-game total in school history, a mark shared by several players. The last time someone had 19 was Carli Smith on Jan. 4, 2003.

The all-time single-game record for the Falcons is 26 by Pam Spencer on Feb. 5, 1977.

Sims' double-double was her fifth in the past seven games, and gives her 10 for her career. She was just one rebound shy of becoming the second player in GNAC history to have a 20-20 double-double. Jenna Washington of Humboldt State had 22 points and 22 boards in 2005.

“Nyesha was pretty darn good. She's really, really determined, and she's not afraid to go for the ball,” SPU head coach Julie Heisey said. “She was guarding their point guard, and she just took off and would go for the rebound. She takes a lot of pride in it.”

Sims had nearly as many  boards by herself as Alaska Fairbanks had as a team (28). In fact, the Falcons doubled up the Nanooks, collecting 56 – the third time in the last four games they've been in the 50s (57 against Pacific Lutheran on Dec. 19, and 53 against Saint Martin's last Saturday). It's the 12th straight game Seattle Pacific has out-rebounded its opponent.

Sophomore forward Benson (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish HS) hit 7 of 11 from the field and pulled down six rebounds. Senior guard McKayla Gorman (Parker, Colo.) collected a career-high seven rebounds, bettering her previous high of six.

Harazin topped her previous career high of seven assists, which she had recorded twice, including last Saturday at home against Saint Martin's.

Seattle Pacific broke open the game with a 16-2 first-half scoring run, extending a 24-16 lead to 40-18. The margin was 18 at halftime, 44-26. A lay-in by Benson pushed it to 46-26 at the outset of the second half, and the Nanooks (4-10, 0-4 GNAC) never got it below 20 after that.

“Overall on offense, we played really well, especially in the first half,” Heisey said. “At times, we played good defense, and at other times, I was a little bit disappointed, so that's still something we're working toward. But we're doing so many things well, and now, we just have to keep going on it.”
