SEATTLE – Lexi Biondi, who helped St. Pius X win the Class 4A New Mexico state volleyball championship two weeks ago, has inked a national letter of intent to join the Seattle Pacific program beginning next fall.

The signing of the 5-foot-10 outside hitter was announced by Falcons head coach Chris Johnson.

St. Pius had lost in the title match the previous four years before breaking through this time, defeating No. 1-seeded Piedra Vista in the final, 17-25, 25-14, 20-25, 25-22, 15-11. Biondi, a team co-captain, had 17 kills in that match as the Sartans capped an 18-9 season.

Biondi is a three-time all-state selection: first team this year, second team in 2011, and honorable mention in 2010. She also is a three-time All-Metro pick, making first team as a junior and senior.  In addition, she has earned a spot on the Class 4A-5A New Mexico North all-star team.

“She has the potential to be a dominant outside hitter,” Johnson said. “She has great hops and a really fast arm – not unlike (former SPU star) Sarah Risser; she has some things that remind me of her.  And she plays good defense.

"But the thing that impressed us the most when she was at camp last summer was her attitude – it's off the charts,” Johnson said. “She's a great kid who has fun playing the game, enjoys being around teammates and brings energy that I think will be contagious.”

Although volleyball is her main sport, Biondi also turns out for track and field. This past spring, she took third at state in the javelin with a toss of 117 feet, 1 inch after winning the Metro title in that event, and was 14th in the triple jump.

Her credentials in the classroom are every bit as solid. She carries a 3.9 grade-point average, is a National Honor Society member, and has earned all-academic honors.

Biondi is the cousin of current SPU setter Sara Biondi. Sara joined the Falcons prior to the 2012 season, transferring from Washington State.
