SEATTLE – Seven outstanding high school seniors, including a quartet from the Crossfire Premier club program, signed letters of intent to attend Seattle Pacific University and play for the defending Great Northwest Athletic Conference champion women's soccer team, Coach
Chuck Sekyra announced Wednesday.
Five of the recruits are from the state of Washington, including Crossfire competitors
Emma Holm, a defender from Kirkland (Lake Washington HS),
Laura Moore, a forward from Kent (Kentwood HS),
Shayla Page, a defender from Redmond (Eastlake HS) and
Ashley Shaw, a midfielder from Seattle (Seattle Lutheran HS).
Taylor Hauck, a defender from Shoreline (King's HS), played her club soccer for the Washington Rush.
The Falcons recruiting class also features
Monica Gomez from Riverside, Calif. (Woodcrest Christian HS) and
Courtney Shearer from Bend, Ore. Gomez is a defender who played club soccer for Slammers FC and Shearer is a goalkeeper who played for the Oregon Rush.
"This is not only a very talented class, but a very well-rounded class with a goalkeeper, forward, two midfielders and three defenders," said Sekyra, who directed the Falcons into the NCAA Division II Tournament in each of his nine seasons. SPU won the 2008 national championship.
"All of these players not only come from talented club teams, but those club teams were successful at the highest level possible in our country. They are all excellent students who are great additions to our program as young women on and off the field. This is going to be a fun group to coach.”
The seven newest Falcons will begin their collegiate careers with training camp in August. They join an SPU team that registered a 17-3 record last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA playoffs.

Slammers was a Surf Cup finalist and National Cup quarterfinalist in 2010. Gomez earned a three-star (out of five) rating from Top Drawer Soccer.
"Monica is the whole package with a tremendous left foot that allows her to strike a 70-yard ball and put it on anyone's head or foot. She is tremendously skilled, can really attack out of the back and is so effective in the air both offensively and defensively. Monica is a very strong player who we feel is going to have an impact in our program right away.”
TAYLOR HAUCK
Defender, 5-4, Shoreline, Wash. (King's HS/Washington Rush)
A four-year varsity letterwinner at King's High School,
Taylor Hauck was a first-team all-league selection in 2011 after garnering honorable mention acclaim the previous two years. Her Washington Rush club squad was a 2010 State Cup semifinalist and won numerous tournaments in 2011, including the U.S. Club Regionals and Surf Cup. Hauck received a three-start rating from Top Drawer Soccer. Her father, Paul Hauck, played on SPU's 1983 NCAA Division II men's national championship soccer team.
“Taylor is a super athletic young lady who can really get up and down the sideline and serve a great ball. We are excited about her quickness and ability to cover ground.”
EMMA HOLM
Midfielder, 5-4, Kirkland, Wash. (Lake Washington HS/Crossfire Premier)
Emma Holm was ranked as the No. 76 recruit nationally, and No. 4 in the Northwest, in the Top Drawer Soccer ratings. A two-time All-KingCo 3A honoree, she led the league in scoring during 2010. Holm served as the Lake Washington High School team captain her final three seasons. Holm helped Crossfire Premier win five Washington state club championships, including 2010 and 2011.
“Emma is a tremendous passer of the ball who is going to be key in our ability to not only possess but have someone like Emma that we can play through and will give us a rhythm. She can play defensive center-mid or center-back and is just a really smart player who makes things look so simple. Emma is smooth.”
LAURA MOORE
Forward, 5-3, Kent, Wash. (Kentwood HS/Crossfire Premier)
A four-year letterwinner,
Laura Moore led Kentwood High School to the Washington state tournament each season. The Conquerors won the 2010 state championship after placing third in 2009. Moore helped Crossfire Premier win three Washington state club titles, including victories in 2010 and 2011.
“Laura is a very skilled and creative player who can beat teams in so many ways. She is a great passer who sees the game very well. Laura is also an accomplished finisher from all distances and is just as dangerous taking defenders on.”
SHAYLA PAGE
Defender, 5-6, Redmond, Wash. (Eastlake HS/Crossfire Premier)
Shayla Page received a three-star (out of five) rating from Top Drawer Soccer. She lettered in volleyball at Eastlake High School. Page helped Crossfire Premier win five Washington state club championships, including 2010 and 2011.
“Shayla is an outstanding defender who can play both center back and outside back. She is a very, very smart player, who reads the game well. Shayla is absolutely dominating in the air, as strong as I have seen, which makes her not only great defensively winning balls but also incredibly dangerous on set pieces. Shayla is a very skilled defender who will help us be the possession team that we want to continue to be.”
ASHLEY SHAW
Midfielder, 5-1, Seattle, Wash. (Seattle Lutheran HS/Crossfire Premier)
The 2010 Washington State MVP,
Ashley Shaw helped lead Seattle Lutheran to the state Class B title that season following third-place performances in 2008 and 2009. She was a two-time all-state selection and three times was named to the all-league team. Ashley helped Crossfire Premier win three Washington state club championships, including 2010 and 2011. She received a three-star (out of five) rating from Top Drawer Soccer.
“Ashley is super dynamic, creative, skilled, quick and elusive. She can beat defenders off the dribble, can possess and can finish. Being left footed we can either get her going on the left flank or put her on the right and let her come inside central on her left foot. We are excited about what Ashley can accomplish right away.”
COURTNEY SHEARER
Goalkeeper, 5-7, Bend, Ore. (Mountain View HS/Oregon Rush)
Courtney Shearer joins the goalkeeper corps at SPU after prepping at Mountain View High School. The Cougars were the 2011 Oregon state Class 5A runners-up. Shearer lettered in volleyball and was shot put and javelin specialist in track and field. She placed fourth in the javelin at the 2010 state championship meet and was seventh in 2011.
