Falcons Finish Second at ISU Quad Meet

SPU scores 191.600; competes Saturday night at Illinois-Chicago

NORMAL, Ill. – Freshman Shannon Escarra placed third in the balance beam competition Friday, leading Seattle Pacific to a second-place team finish at the Illinois State women's gymnastics quad meet at Horton Field House.
 
Escarra (Fayetteville, Ga.) registered her career-best beam score of 9.725 to tie for third with Kim Genereux of Illinois State. Escarra posted a 10th-place mark of 9.625 on the floor.
 
The NCAA Division II Falcons compiled 191.600 points, their second-highest team score of the season. They produced a 192.575 at home last Friday.
 
Host Illinois State was the top team finisher (193.625) and Temple was third (190.250). They are both Division I competitors. Finishing fourth was Division III member Wisconsin-Stout (178.625).
 
SPU senior Sherah Veron (Broken Arrow, Okla.) turned in two fourth-place performances. She received a score of 9.775 on the floor exercise and tied with junior teammate Jenna Dudley with a mark of 9.750 on the vault.
 
Dudley (Lynden, Wash./Lynden Christian HS) was the team's top uneven bars performer with a score of 9.525.
 
The Falcons top events were the vault and floor where they recorded their second-best team scores of the season. The five scoring marks were all 9.525 or higher, combining for a score of 48.125 on the vault apparatus.
 
SPU's floor lineup tallied a mark of 48.450, featuring all five counting scores at 9.60 or better.
 
Genereaux won the all-around with a four-event total of 38.825. She edged Temple's Katie Canning whose mark of 38.800 included a first-place scores on the vault (9.825) and beam (9.775).
 
The host Redbirds won all three individual events, including Samantha King on bars (9.775) and Melissa Mann on beam (9.775). Corrine Williams of Temple finished first on floor (9.825).
 
The Falcons remain in Illinois for a dual meet at Illinois-Chicago on Saturday at 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
