SEATTLE – Seven Seattle Pacific seniors competed for the last time at Brougham Pavilion. A few Falcons saved their best for last.

Seniors Texie Gregory and Samantha Taylor registered career-high performances and Sherah Veron won the floor exercise title Friday night, helping Seattle Pacific take second place in the final home gymnastics meet of the season.

SPU's senior class was honored along with their parents during a brief ceremony before the meet. Those gymnasts were feted again after the competition by their teammates.

Coach Laurel Tindall was determined that the tribute to the seniors not distract from their performances.

"They had great routines. We were real conscious because last year Senior Week was stressful and we wanted to make sure this was not a stressful week. We didn't want the seniors to put too much pressure on themselves and feel like they had to hit on Senior Night.

"We still had some misses from seniors, but overall it was a good final home meet for that group."

The NCAA Division II Falcons tallied 191.350 points, their third-highest score of the season. UC Davis, a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival, finished with 192.900. The Aggies are a Division I competitor.

Veron (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and freshman Shannon Escarra (Fayetteville, Ga.) led a powerful performance on the floor. Veron won with a 9.85, and Escarra turned a career-high mark of 9.775 into a second-place finish. Falcons teammates Brittany Malone (Salinas, Calif.), a senior, and junior Stephanie Wagner (Estacada, Ore.) were part of a three-way tie for third at 9.75 with the Aggies' Katie Yamamura.

Seattle Pacific wound up with a season-high floor total of 48.800 points. Its previous best of 48.600 was recorded last week at Washington.

"We always do well on floor, especially at home when it's our last event," Tindall said. "They train pretty well on floor as far as hitting routines. They are pretty consistent in the gym and they have really good choreography that shows off well."

Veron also was second on the vault with her team-leading mark of 9.75. Her senior teammate Taylor (San Carlos, Calif.) tied a personal-best on the vault with a 9.625.

Two other Falcons delivered career-high performances on the vault: sophomore Kenley Memmel (West Bend, Wis.) at 9.70, which was good for third place, and sophomore Ali Tso (Phoenix, Ariz.) at 9.575.

Gregory (Auburn, Calif.) posted a career high of 9.825 on the uneven bars to grab second place.

Wagner, with a no-fall performance, logged SPU's top score on the balance beam with a 9.775, and that was good for second place. Escarra was close behind in third with a 9.675.

Yamamura was a multiple-winner for UC Davis, leading the way on the vault (9.775) and bars (9.85) en route to a first-place all-around score of 39.05.

Along with Veron, Taylor, Malone and Gregory, the other Falcons seniors saluted on Friday night were Kaysha Heck (Edmonds, Wash.), Aditi Kulkarni (Lakewood, Colo.) and Lari Wilson (Rio Rancho, N.M.). Corrine Wise (West Seattle) was also recognized with her classmates, but she will return to compete next season after utilizing an injury red-shirt season this year.

The Falcons will be on the road for their final three meets of the regular season, beginning next Friday at Air Force. The dual meet in Colorado Springs, Colo. starts at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
