INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- A streak of three consecutive NCAA Regatta appearances was snapped when Seattle Pacific was not included in the six-boat field for the Women's Rowing Championships that was announced Monday.
The NCAA Division II selection committee named Humboldt State, Mercyhurst, Nova Southeastern and seven-time champion Western Washington as the four team qualifiers.
SPU sought one of the two at-large invitations for varsity eight crews that instead were issued to Barry (Fla.) and Central Oklahoma.
The Falcons posted faster finish times than Barry on consecutive days last weekend, but the two crews never competed head-to-head in the same race. On Saturday, the Falcons won the petite final at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.
The 2012 NCAA Rowing Championships will be conducted May 25-27 on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
Seattle Pacific's eight-oared women's crew won the bronze medal at the 2009 NCAA regatta, placed fourth in 2010 and fifth in 2011. The Falcons came away with the second-place team trophy in 2010.
