SEATTLE – Before basketball season tips off, Seattle Pacific supporters can tee off on September 7 in the 2012 Falcon Golf Classic.

The 33rd-annual golf event, sponsored by Absher Construction, Enviromech, M.A. Mortenson Company and Synergy Building Services, is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 7 and once again will be played at Harbour Point Golf Club in Mukilteo (11817 Harbour Pointe Blvd.).

The tournament benefits the men's basketball program at SPU. Last year's Golf Classic generated more than $35,000 in scholarships for the program.

The format of the tournament is scramble/best ball, and it gets going with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. The $200 entry fee per golfer includes green fees, a continental breakfast that begins at 6:30 a.m., team and individual photos, a buffet luncheon, prizes, carts, and a bucket of balls at the practice range.

Registration and payment (part of which is tax-deductible) are due by Aug. 24.

"It is overwhelming each year to see how much support there is for SPU men's basketball,” head coach Ryan Looney said. “We hope to continue to provide an event that our supporters can be proud of.

“The contributors and participants at this event are taking part in an unbelievable cause. All funds raised will go directly toward athletic scholarships. It will continue to help our student-athletes finance their education."

Trophies will be awarded to the top three foursomes at the Falcon Golf Classic. In addition, individual contests will be offered for putting, longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin.

During the 2011-12 season, the Falcons posted a 23-8 record and placed third in the GNAC with a 13-5 mark. The Seattle Pacific men made their eighth straight NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament appearance, the longest current playoff streak in the nation, and advanced to the West Regional championship game.
