PORTLAND, Ore. – The awards continue to come for sophomore
Riley Stockton, who received the Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week award on Tuesday after leading Seattle Pacific to a pair of home victories.
A product of Ferris High School in Spokane, Wash., Stockton was announced on Monday as the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year and a second-team selection on the all-conference team.
Along with exceptional play on the defensive end, the 6-foot-4 guard compiled 19 points, 19 rebounds, 11 assists and just two turnovers as the Falcons swept the Alaska schools last week. Stockton registered an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double while distributing six assists in Saturday's 73-65 win over Alaska Fairbanks.
That was his third double-digit rebound game in the last four outings. Stockton has topped all Falcons rebounders 19 times this season.
In Thursday's 59-56 victory over Alaska Anchorage, Stockton contributed eight points, eight rebounds and five assists. He hit 2-of-4 shots from 3-point range.
Stockton finished the regular season as the conference leader in rebounds, averaging 7.6 per game. He also ranks seventh in assists (3.8) and third in assist/turnover ratio (2.8).
He is the nephew of NBA Hall of Fame point guard John Stockton.
Stockton helped the Falcons (23-3) earn the No. 2 seed for this week's GNAC Tournament at Marcus Pavilion in Lacey, Wash. They have a semifinal matchup on Friday at 5:15 p.m. against the winner of Thursday's quarterfinal clash between No. 3 seed Alaska Anchorage and No. 6 Central Washington.
Saturday's GNAC men's championship game will be televised live at 7:30 p.m. on ROOT Sports.
The GNAC Tournament winner receives the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament that begins on Mar. 15. SPU boasts the nation's longest current postseason streak, having participated in the playoffs each of the last eight years.
