SEATTLE – She's only a freshman, so Hannah Lautenbach will have a lot more kills – and maybe even a lot more double-doubles – before she's done playing volleyball.

But she's not likely to forget her first collegiate double-double.

Lautenbach's 10th kill of the night clinched the victory on Saturday as Seattle Pacific beat Alaska Fairbanks in a five-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference match.

Scores in Brougham Pavilion were 25-22, 25-20, 16-25, 22-25, 15-13.

That put the Falcons (11-8, 5-6 GNAC) back into the win column after they had lost their previous three.

The decisive kill from Lautenbach came with Seattle Pacific up 14-13 in the fifth game. The ball flicked off the fingers of a Nanooks player and hit the floor, putting the final point on the board.

"I saw (the ball) change directions, so I knew it was a touch," Lautenbach said. "It was very exciting and I'm glad we got it."

Seniors Madi Cavell and Jessica Miller had 12 kills apiece for the Falcons. Cavell (Keizer, Ore.) also made it a double-double – her second in a row – by coming up with 13 digs. She now has eight double-doubles for the season and 22 for her career.

Lautenbach, who has moved to the right side after previously playing at middle blocker, had 12 digs to go along with her 10 kills, giving her career highs in both categories. Her previous best totals were eight kills and nine digs.

"Hannah was absolutely great all night long," SPU coach Chris Johnson said. "I thought she did a great job all over the place – even a lot of things that don't get seen on the stat sheet. She has been doing a really good job on the right since we moved her over there."

With its only two October home matches now in the book, Seattle Pacific is back on the road next week, visiting Simon Fraser on Thursday and Western Washington on Saturday, both at 7:00 p.m.

The Falcons wiped out deficits of 9-5 and 14-12 to win Game 1, then led from start to finish in taking Game 2.

But Alaska Fairbanks (2-17, 2-9 GNAC), which got 29 kills from junior outside hitter Sam Harthun, was in front most of the way to capture Game 3 and stay alive. Then, down 17-13 in Game 4, the Nanooks called time out and subsequently ran off off the next five points to go up 18-17. SPU tied it at 18, 19, 20, and 21, but never could get back in front.

In the deciding fifth game, the Falcons were up 8-5 at the switchover, and built it to 10-7. Fairbanks scrambled back into an 11-11 tie, then saw Seattle Pacific go up triple match point at 14-11. UAF fought off two of those before Lautenbach's clinching kill.

"Really, it was just keep calm and go get 'em, and I think we did a good job of that," Johnson said of heading out for Game 5. "I don't think any one of us doubted we were going to win it. It was just going to take a good game from us."

Senior setter Sara Biondi (Sacramento, Calif.) had 41 assists, along with seven kills, four service aces, and seven block assists. Senior libero Brianna Leenders (Gresham, Ore.) had 22 digs, and sophomore middle blocker Maddi Hommes (Lynden, Wash. / Lynden HS) had eight total blocks, including one solo.

Seattle Pacific, which is 4-1 in five-gamers this fall, hit .116, but did hit .240 in the fifth game. Fairbanks hit .205 for the match.
