LAS VEGAS – It was just last Saturday when Suzanna Ohlsen was watching the action in street clothes as she recovered from a hard encounter with the hardwood in a game the previous week.

The past two days in Las Vegas, the Seattle Pacific senior point guard made up for lost time.

Suzanna Ohlsen
Ohlsen drilled 21 points on Thursday on 75 percent shooting from the field as the No. 19-ranked Seattle Pacific women finished a two-game sweep of the Las Vegas Challenge basketball tournament by downing Holy Names, 82-46.

The victory in Orelans Arena completed an 8-0 run through non-conference competition for Seattle Pacific. The last time the Falcons went unbeaten against opponents outside of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference was 2007-08, when they won all nine games.

This also is the first time SPU has been 9-1 since the 2008-09 season. The Falcons will be off until New Year's night when a game in Bellingham against arch-rival Western Washington is on the docket for a 7:00 p.m. start.

Ohlsen (Monroe, Wash. / Monroe HS) hit 9 of 12 from the field on Thursday. She also handed out five assists and came up with four steals and four rebounds.

Combined with what she did in Wednesday's 91-63 rout of Dixie State, Ohlsen's two-day totals were 38 points on 15-of-23 shooting (65.2 percent), eight assists, seven steals, and seven rebounds.

"I thought Sue was fantastic. She was doing it all," SPU head coach Julie Heisey said. "She was passing, playing good defense, she was able to score, get some good runouts, and some good steals.

"It's definitely nice to have her back."

Betsy Kingma
Senior guard Betsy Kingma added 12 points for SPU, and sophomore guard / forward Hannah Rodrigues contributed 11.

Kingma (Bellevue, Wash. / Newport HS) got all of her points from behind the arc for the fourth game in a row, this time hitting 4 of 9. Rodrigues (Eugene, Ore.) had four rebounds to go along with her 11 points.

5791
Aubree Callen
Senior guard Aubree Callen matched Ohlsen with five assists. Callen (Jerome, Idaho) has 14 assists in the past three games. The Falcons had a season-high 22 assists on Thursday, as all but eight of their field goals were assisted.

"That shows we played well together," Heisey said. "A lot of different people contributed. We had some beautiful passes. That's what makes for good basketball."

Seattle Pacific scored the first four points of the game, never trailed, and was never tied. Up 25-20 with 8:43 left in the first half, the Falcons went on a 15-0 run during the next four minutes to build a 20-point advantage at 40-20. Then, with a 45-27 lead at the break, SPU outscored the Hawks (2-9) by a 19-2 bulge to open the second half.

The Falcons hit .508 from the field (30 of 59), the fourth time in the past six games they have topped 50 percent. They tied their season low with just 10 turnovers, which yielded just eight points for Holy Names. SPU converted 18 Hawks turnovers – 15 of which were Seattle Pacific steals – into 31 points.

"I feel like we did a lot of things really well, and it started with defense," Heisey said. "We were able to create a lot off of our defense as far as quick turnovers and doing a good job of getting some quick outlets. We were able to score quite a bit in transition."

Ariel Clay led Holy Hames with 10 points. Graysha Youngblood, the team's leading scorer at 14.8 points per game who went for 26 in Wednesday's 73-60 loss to Western Oregon, was limited to just seven on 3-of-7 shooting.
