SEATTLE – The milestones were big enough in their own right.

But the end result was even bigger for the Seattle Pacific Falcons.

Aubree Callen scored 20 points, including the 1,000th of her college career, and fellow senior Suzanna Ohlsen added 19 to climb onto the school's all-time top-10 scoring list as No. 22-ranked SPU fended off Western Washington in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Saturday night, 72-68.

The Falcons (16-3, 8-3 GNAC) took over sole possession of second place in the standings. After road losses at Western Oregon and Saint Martin's, they started the week in a three-way tie with Simon Fraser and Western. But they beat the Clan on Thursday, 89-76, followed by Saturday's win against the Vikings (13-7, 7-4 GNAC).

Betsy Kingma chipped in 12 points, getting all of them from behind the 3-point arc, and Maddey Pflaumer added 10 on 5-of-7 shooting.  Together, the four seniors contributed 61 of the 72 points as Seattle Pacific swept the two-game season series from Western for the first time since 2007-08.

"Our kids prepared hard all week," head coach Julie Heisey said. "They played amazing, and our four seniors were awesome. When we needed it, Aubree hit big shots, Betsy hit big shots, Sue's no-look pass to Maddey, Sue driving to the basket …

"They played like four seniors who said, 'We're not going to lose this game,' and they were clutch," she added.

Seattle Pacific has just one game next week, playing host to Montana State Billings on Homecoming Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

5953Redshirt senior guard Callen (Jerome, Idaho) got to the millennium milestone in timely fashion. With SPU up just 65-63, she drove to the hoop for a lay-in with 2:33 to play, made the shot, was fouled, and sank the ensuing free throw for exactly 1,000 points. She is the 22nd Falcon all-time to reach that mark, and the second this year.

"I don't think I ever really thought about that – it's exciting. It's kind of cool to get into that club," Callen said. "More than anything, my teammates are getting me the ball. I have teammates who can get me the ball and create. It's easier for me and it takes a lot of pressure off, and I can play free. I can attribute that to them."

Just 28 seconds later, Callen got an even bigger basket. A shot by Ohlsen from the foul line was blocked, but the ball wound up in Callen's hands just to the right of the hoop. With the shot clock running down, she popped one in from five feet away to make it 70-63 with 1:55 remaining.

Callen also grabbed 10 rebounds for her second career double-double.

Senior point guard Ohlsen (Monroe, Wash. / Monroe HS), who reached 1,000 in December, hit the second of two free throws with 10.5 seconds left to put the Falcons up 72-66, and was the 1,215th point of her career. That ties her with Valerie Gustafson for 10th place on the school's list.

"Suzanna came in and she can do so many things," Heisey said. "She has the ability to influence nine other people on the floor. Not everyone has that opportunity."

The score was tied nine times, and the lead changed hands 11 times. The last two of those lead changes came within a span of 18 seconds midway through the second half. After trailing by seven at 42-35, Western roared back with 14-6 run to go up 49-48 on a 3-pointer by Jenni White with 9:31 left.

SPU grabbed it right back on a jump shot and free throw by Courtney Hollander. The Vikings tied it one final time at 51-51, then Ohlsen pumped in five straight points for a 56-51 edge.

Saturday's entire game was played within a 13-point range. Western led by five early in the first half at 9-4, and SPU had an eight-point margin at 63-55 with 5:32 remaining, the last of those points coming on an Ohlsen no-look pass to Pflaumer for an easy lay-in.

The Vikings never came closer than two after that, at 65-63 on two free throws by Taylor Peacocke with 3:12 left.

White led Western Washington with 15 points.
