Box score, play-by-play SEATTLE – Stine Raben slammed 17 kills, and Melissa Brum had a double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs as Academy of Art opened the Great Northwest Athletic Conference-Pacific West Crossover Volleyball Tournament on Thursday by beating Montana State Billings.
Scores in Brougham Pavilion were 25-23, 24-26, 25-21, 25-20.
Urban Knights freshman Stine hit .341 on the way to her 17 kills. Bailey Soolsma added 10 kills and played error-free for a hitting percentage of .500 on 20 attacks.
Kabrina Speakman led Art with 17 digs. Rachel Smith racked up 48 assists. Safua Elisaia served up five aces, and the Knights had 11 aces for the match.
Billings was led by Ashlynn Ward with 18 kills. She also hit .500, with just two errors on 32 swings. Miranda McConnell added 14 kills and hit even better at .667 (14-2-18). Stormy Siemion posted a double-double of 10 kills and 13 digs. Kyndal Williams had 47 assists.
Both teams had solid hitting percentages for the match -- .299 for Academy of Art, and .270 for Montana State Billings.
