Sharks take down Fairbanks in 3 games at GNAC-Pac West volleyball tourney

SEATTLE – Elizabeth Culpepper logged a double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs on Friday afternoon, helping Hawaii Pacific score a three-game sweep of Alaska Fairbanks in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference-Pacific West Crossover Volleyball Tournament.
 
Scores in Seattle Pacific's Brougham Pavilion were 25-17, 25-20, 25-19.
 
The Sharks (3-3) bounced back from Thursday's five-game loss to Simon Fraser, a match that went 2 hours and 45 minutes, with the Clan prevailing, 39-37, 25-16, 21-25, 32-34, 15-11.
 
Pomai Recca added 10 kills for Hawaii Pacific, and came within one dig of a double-double. Amanda Moriarty had 19 digs. Tenika Wentworth earned 31 assists. Kasey Thompson played an error-free match with five kills on eight attacks for .625 hitting, and Lea Felton hit .368 (8 kills-1 error-19 attacks).
 
Sam Harthun put a double-double into the books for Alaska Fairbanks (0-6). The senior outside hitter had 11 kills, 10 digs, and hit .278 for the match. Amberly Jeane added nine kills, and Riley Podowicz had six kills with no errors on 12 attacks for.500 hitting.
 
Hawaii Pacific returns to action later Friday, facing Montana State Billings at 6:00 p.m. PDT. The Sharks conclude the tournament against host Seattle Pacific at 8:30 p.m.
 
The Nanooks play their final tournament match on Saturday morning at 9:30 against Azusa Pacific.
