Cougars take down Simon Fraser in a sweep at GNAC-Pacific West Crossover

SEATTLE – Ally Gonzalez had 13 kills and hit a team-leading .400 on Saturday evening, and Azusa Pacific came from behind late in the second game to win it on the way to a sweep of Simon Fraser in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference-Pacific West Crossover Volleyball Tournament.
 
Scores in Seattle Pacific's Brougham Pavilion were 25-18, 28-26, 25-17.
 
The Cougars (4-4) won all four of their matches in the tournament. They had lost all four last weekend at a preseason tournament in Anchorage, but three of those were against nationally-ranked teams.
 
Simon Fraser (4-4) went 2-2 in the tournament.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Gonzalez had just three errors on 25 attacks. She also had three block assists. Katy Crouse added eight kills. Ashley Midland had six block assists, and played error-free with five kills on 14 attacks for a .357 hitting percentage.
 
Jaden Louie had 21 assists, and Ashley Swatek recorded 13 digs for Azusa Pacific, which hit .179 for the match (38 kills-19 errors-106 attacks).
 
Tessa May had nine kills and hit .353 (9-3-17) for Simon Fraser. She also had four total blocks, including one solo. Tamara Nipp earned 15 assists, and Alison McKay came up with 20 digs.
 
The Clan were kept to negative hitting, finishing at minus-.017 (28-30-117).
 
In Game 2, Azusa Pacific was down 26-25, but tied it on a kill by Gonzalez. Another Gonzalez kill put the Cougars up 27-26, then a kill by Crouse clinched the game.
 
Simon Fraser scored the first three points of the third game and was up 5-4 when Azusa ran off seven straight points for an 11-5 lead. The Cougars stayed in front the rest of the way.
