SEATTLE – Kristi Hayashida scored a season-best 9.85 on the balance beam, leading Seattle Pacific on that event for the third straight time this season, and Maria Hundley was the top Falcon vaulter for the third meet in a row, but SPU came up short in its women's gymnastics home opener against Sacramento State on Friday night.

The NCAA Division I Hornets tallied 194.425, their third consecutive score in that range. Division II Seattle Pacific finished with 188.425 in front of the 660 spectators at Brougham Pavilion.

Falcons junior Hayashida (Mililani, Hawaii) stuck a solid no-fall routine to get into the 9.8s for the first time this winter. She previously scored 9.70 at Air Force on Jan. 9, which was that night's winning score, and 9.775 last Friday at UC Davis. Hayashida was second overall on Friday, trailing only the 9.875 posted by Kalliah McCartney of Sacramento State.

SPU senior Hundley (Littleton, Colo.) earned a share of second place on the vault with her 9.775. McCartney also won that event, scoring 9.825.

A senior from the CAM Academy in Vancouver, Wash., McCartney topped the all-around field with a season-best total of 39.250. Her Hornets teammate Lauren Rice, who posted a first-place floor exercise score of 9.85, was second with a four-event total of 38.875.

SPU sophomore Ariana Harger was third among the all-around competitors with 37.70 points.

Harger (Castro Valley, Calif.) rang up a season-best 9.825 on the floor to take second place. She has been the top Falcon on that event all season, including an overall win at Air Force.

Seattle Pacific's floor routines also included a career-high 9.70 from senior Rain Sullivan (Moraga, Calif.). Her previous best was 9.55.

Lauren Glover (Fort Collins, Colo.) added a 9.725 to place seventh on floor. That was the third magnificent mark of the evening for the junior, who missed the majority of the 2015 campaign with an injury.

Glover finished fourth on the vault with a 9.70 and seventh on beam at 9.65. All three of her scores were season highs.

Hundley and junior teammate Breanna Beltran (Modesto, Calif.) led the Falcons on the uneven bars with matching marks of 9.625, tying for fifth overall.

A trio of Sacramento gymnasts tied for top honors on the bars. McCartney, Rice and Caitlin Soliwoda each notched a score of 9.75.

Sacramento State scored in the 48-point range on all four events, ranging from 48.30 on the bars to 48.925 on the floor. SPU's top event was 47.525 on the vault.

The Falcons are back on the road next week, joining Texas Woman's University and William & Mary in a four-way meet at San Jose State on Friday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. The next home meet is on Friday, Feb. 12 against UC Davis.
