BOISE, Idaho – Freshman McKenna Zimmermann was the team's top scorer in three events for Seattle Pacific, which struggled to a fourth-place score of 186.875 on Friday in its first road competition of the season, the Boise State women's gymnastics quad meet.

One week after registering a 191.325 at home that was their finest season-opening total since 2006, the Falcons faltered with their lowest output since scoring 185.825 points at Washington on Jan. 15, 2011. They were forced to count six falls in scoring routines.

The hosts, eighth-ranked Boise State, handily won the team title with 195.850 points. No. 7 Denver was second with a team total of 195.050 and Illinois-Chicago was third at 192.375. All three are NCAA Division I members and SPU competes at the Division II level.

Zimmermann (San Jose, Calif.) was SPU's best performer in all three events she competed. She established new collegiate highs in two events and equaled her uneven bars best.

Itzia San Roman
Itzia San Roman matched Zimmermann for team-high honors on the vault with a 9.725 and they tied for 11th place overall. Zimmermann placed 14th on the balance beam (9.650) and 16th on the bars (9.500).

Sophomore Darian Burns earned the Falcons' top floor exercise score with an 11th-place mark of 9.650. She is the defending national champion in that event.

Burns compiled a four-event total of 37.500 to place eighth in the all-around and San Roman was ninth at 36.550.

Seattle Pacific competed 10 gymnasts and four of them were freshmen performing for the first time on the road as collegians. Three other Falcons are sophomores as just three upperclassmen were in the lineup; senior Brittany Atchison along with juniors San Roman and Kylee Gauna.

The format at Taco Bell Arena didn't do the gymnasts any favors. While all four teams competed without byes so the minimum four rotations were implemented, only one gymnast performed at a time while the other three events were idle. That created a much longer than customary delay, especially for the sixth gymnast in each rotation who had a wait time of nearly 40 minutes after her touch warm-up.

FLOOR
The Falcons opened the meet on the floor exercise, compiling a team total of 46.950. As she did last week, Burns led the Falcons in that event. The sophomore from Atlanta, Georgia received a score of 9.650.

Gauna had the next best SPU score with a 9.625. That eclipsed her previous career-high mark of 9.550 by .075.

The team's floor score would have been higher, but SPU had to count one fall along with a pair of one-tenth deductions for going out-of-bounds.

VAULT
The second rotation produced the loftiest event total for the Falcons, who combined for 47.525 team points. San Roman and Zimmermann led the way with matching marks of 9.725. Burns wasn't far behind with a 9.675.

The Falcons five counting vault scorers included one fall.

BARS
Despite an outstanding lead-off performance by Zimmermann, the uneven bars proved to be SPU's most challenging event. They tallied just 45.375 points during their third event.

Zimmermann matched her season-best mark with a 9.500 with the first Falcons' routine on the bars. None of the other SPU gymnasts approached their season-high efforts and three falls were counted in the event total.

BEAM
The final event featured stellar back-to-back performances from the Nos. 4 and 5 spots in the lineup. Sophomore Lena Wirth set a new career-high with a score of 9.60 and Zimmermann followed with a 9.650.

The five counting floor scores, that totaled 47.025, included one fall.

NEXT MEET
The Falcons return home next Friday (Jan. 26) to host Lindenwood and Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The triangular meet begins at 7 p.m. in Brougham Pavilion.
