SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Miyuki Matsune placed fourth on the balance beam Friday while teammate Darian Burns was fifth in the all-around and seventh on the vault for the Seattle Pacific gymnasts in a third-place team result at the Sacramento State Triangular.

Matsune earned a career-high score of 9.800 on the beam, improving upon the 9.775 she posted last week. The SPU sophomore executed a routine without using her left arm, which is heavily bandaged due to a broken hand. All of the skills in her routine that require a hand are performed with only her right arm.

Burns compiled a four-event total of 37.775 that would have been higher except for a fall on the floor exercise. Her seventh-place vault score was 9.750 and she posted a 9.675 on the uneven bars, tops on the team, and 9.600 on the beam.

Sacramento State recorded a season-high total of 195.400 to win the team title at home in the Hornets Nest. San Jose State was second with 194.050 points and the NCAA Division II Falcons' third-place mark was 189.200. SPU's opposition were both Division I members.

Sacramento's Annie Juarez was the all-around winner, compiling 39.200 points that included a first-place score of 9.850 on the floor. Her teammate, Jackie Sampson, topped the bars field (9.875).

Kaprece Nadonza claimed first place on the vault for San Jose State with a score of 9.825. The Spartans' Chelsey Andrada and Sacramento's Caitlin Soliwoda tied for top honors on the beam with matching marks of 9.875.

Junior Itzia San Roman was SPU's best floor performer with a 10th-place score of 9.650.

BEAM
SPU got off to a terrific start , shattering its season-best beam total with 48.125 points. The previous high on that apparatus was 47.725.

The Falcons did not have to count their one fall as the other five competitors stayed on the beam. After fine scores in the middle of the lineup from Darian Burns (9.600) and Lena Wirth (9.650), the final two gymnasts were standouts.

In the No. 5 spot, San Roman received a score of 9.750 that surpassed her previous season-high of 9.675 by three-quarters of a point.

Matsune followed in the anchor position and recorded a career-best tally of 9.800. That improved upon the 9.775 she earned last week. Matsune's performance as all the more remarkable considering she only used her right arm as her left was heavily wrapped due to a broken hand.

The second rotation was not without highlights as a trio of gymnasts in the middle of the rotation posted impressive scores. From the No. 2 hole, freshman Jadacie Durst received a 9.575 in her fourth consecutive meet in the floor lineup. Another freshman, Kylie Reese, was up fourth and produced 9.600 points.

Freshman Shelbi Spivey produced the season-high mark for a Falcon on the bars. Her score of 9.625 was over a point better than in her inaugural routine last week.
