SEATTLE – The Seattle Pacific rowing team will not compete in Lowell, Oregon as previously planned because Saturday's Covered Bridge Regatta has been canceled due to expected inclement weather. This would have been the 24th-annual regatta, which has been hampered by harsh weather in the past.
Forecasts project heavy rain and severe wind conditions in the area around Dexter Lake and throughout the Northwest this weekend. The regatta was canceled in advance to prevent teams from making the trip and then not being able to race.
Three SPU crews were scheduled to compete, but that trio of boats will have to wait until next Saturday, April 14, when the Falcon Regatta takes place on the Lake Washington Ship Canal that runs along the north side of the Seattle Pacific campus.
Two premier NCAA Division II crews join host and seventh-ranked SPU, including defending national champion Western Washington which is listed fourth in this week's coaches poll. Top-ranked Central Oklahoma, the 2017 national runner-up, will also compete.
The three-race card begins at 8 a.m., starting near Gas Works Park in Lake Union and heading west toward the finish line located behind Brougham Pavilion.
