NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament
West Regional
Brougham Pavilion/Seattle, Wash.
Friday, March 12, 2010
(No. 6 seed) Chico State 79, (No. 3 seed) Western Washington 68
CHICO STATE HEAD COACH BRIAN FOGEL
(On the game)
“We wanted to be able to defend them and pressure them. I thought we did an extremely good job in the first half of defending Willow Cabe -- it took three of us to guard her. I knew Amanda Dunbar and Jessica Summers were going to get their baskets -- they’re just too good. But the ones they made, they had to earn.”
(On comparing this game to the 80-59 loss at Bellingham in December)
“They’re a different team today, and we’re a different team today. It’s just part of the maturation process. We’re a lot more solid in backcourt today than we were the first time we played them.”
(On the quick change in momentum in the second half)
“They went on that run, then we went on our run. We’re playing with a lot of confidence right now, and we’re believing in ourselves and in our teammates.”
CHICO STATE GUARD SYNCHRO BULL
(On the game)
“I just went out today with confidence in my team. We’re a completely different team right now. The first half of the season was kind of rough for us. We were just getting used to each other. The second half of the season, we’ve grown as a family.”
(On getting the momentum back from Western)
“We just kept our composure. If they got a run, then it was our turn to get a run. If we did a good job on defense, then everything would work out in the end.”
WESTERN WASHINGTON COACH CARMEN DOLFO
(On the game)
“We just made too many mistakes today at both ends of the court. Chico stepped up and hit big shots when they needed to.”
(On the difference between this game and Western’s 21-point win against Chico in December)
“They played half a game last time, and they played a full game this time. They just made plays, and we didn’t.”
(On the season as a whole)
“We’ll be able to reflect that we accomplished a lot this year. But right now, that’s kind of hard to do.”
