NEW ORLEANS –
Chris Reed of Seattle Pacific has been named the West Region women's indoor Assistant Coach of the Year, and a dozen Falcon athletes have earned All-Region honors as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Chris ReedReed is a former distance running star at Western Oregon, from which he graduated in 2011. He is in his second year at SPU, coming aboard in December 2013.
This is the first coaching honor for Reed. He was on the WOU staff for two seasons before joining the Falcons.
Seattle Pacific's women piled up a total of 21 All-Region awards. Those honors go to the top five performers in each event, and to the members of the top three relay teams.
Juniors
Jahzelle Ambus and
Anna Patti, and freshman
Becca Houk collected three apiece. Ambus (Portland, Ore.) made it in the 200, 400, and on the 4x400 relay. Patti was on the list for the 3,000, the 5,000, and the distance medley relay. Houk's awards were for the 60- and 200-meter dashes, and the distance medley.
Two awards apiece went to senior
Tasia Baldwin (Tacoma, Wash. / Foss HS, long jump and 4x400), junior
Lynelle Decker (800, distance medley), and junior
Maliea Luquin (Portland,Ore., 60 hurdles and pentathlon).
Earning one each were sophomore
Kyra Brannan (Kennewick, Wash. / Kamiakin HS, long jump), senior
Jasmine Johnson (Federal Way, Wash. / Federal Way HS, 4x400 relay), sophomore
Sammi Markham (Gig Harbor, Wash. / Gig Harbor HS, shot put), freshman
Jessica Rawlins (distance medley), junior
Jalen Tims (Portland,Ore., 4x400), and freshman
Naphtali Ward (Gig Harbor / Gig Harbor, high jump).
With the indoor season now complete, SPU's outdoor schedule gets into full swing, beginning with the Rose City Preview on Saturday at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore. Field events begin at 10:30 a.m., and running starts at 10:45.
