Throughout the school year, the Seattle Pacific sports information team occasionally will pose questions to various Falcon athletes. But this week, SPU's fall sports coaches get their turn in the Forum spotlight.

What's foremost in your mind as the season heads toward 'crunch time?'

Men's soccer
As we prepare for our final games of the regular season, the first thing that we need to focus on is tightening up our defense. Whether it's keeping our shape or maintaining discipline in 1-v-1 situations, we need to be better defensively. Our attack seems to be getting better, but we need to focus on our finishing. Overall, I'm hoping that we can bring a consistent work rate to the field for our remaining games.

At this point, it's that the team recognizes the miles and hard work they have put into this season, and are now able to approach the taper phase and championship segment of the season with confidence, determination, and excitement.

Chris Johnson
Volleyball
Getting better -- plain and simple. We have had a good amount of success already this season, and are ranked in the region for the first time in a couple of years. This is all great. But we know that we need to continue to work hard and improve in practice every day in order to be successful throughout the rest of the season and into the playoffs.

Chuck Sekyra
Women's soccer
I feel like everything is our hands. That's all that can be asked for as a coach. What we do with it is that we absolutely have to go after it and take advantage of every single game and opportunity. We're an incredibly talented team. Where we sit, the opportunities and possibilities are everything that we want. That's exactly how we have to look at it. I think our kids are starting to realize how big a deal it is (for other teams) to play with us and compete with us. We need to take that into consideration every time we step on the field, and understand that and respect it. How we respond to that is just go after our opponent with everything we have and be confident in that.
