ELLENSBURG -- Sophomore Ryan Endresesn won the 400-meter hurdles for the second straight year, and was one of three individual victors for Seattle Pacific as the Falcons finished third in the team standings on Saturday at the Spike Arlt Invitational.
Endresen (Portland, Ore.) came across the line in 54.82 seconds. That left him nearly two seconds in front of runner-up Kramer Green of Eastern Washington, who clocked 56.72.
Last year, Endresen won in 54.86, his first time below 55 seconds as a collegian. His current personal best is 54.21.
Freshman Evan Bradford logged the second victory of his college career, and junior Ray Zolleick finished on top for the first time as a Falcon.
Seattle Pacific totaled 73 points in the competition at Central Washington University. The host Wildcats won with 237.5.
Bradford (Santa Barbara, Calif.) fended off Western Washington's Chip Jackson in the 1,500 meters, hitting the wire in 4 minutes, 6.87 seconds. Jackson was next across the line in 4:08.13.
On March 19, Bradford broke into the college win column by taking the 1,500 at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open in Portland. His time that day was 4:00.50, which still stands as his PR.
Zoellick (Bothell, Wash./Cedar Park Christian HS) cleared 14 feet, 3 ¼ inches / 4.35 meters to take the pole vault. Three others also cleared that height, but each of them needed more than one attempt to clear a lower height earlier in the competition.
Zoellick passed on the first three heights, coming in at 12-9 ½ / 3.90 meters, and cleared that height, as well as the next three heights, on his first attempt.
Senior Micah Grounds (San Diego, Calif., but a graduate of Shorecrest High School north of Seattle) sped to a personal-best time of 11.09 seconds in the 100 meters to take second in that race. Grounds' previous best was 11.34, set last season.
Former SPU distance star Chad Meis, competing unattached, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:46.8. Current Falcon sophomore AJ Baker (AuGres, Mich.) was second in 9:51.4.
Seattle will split its squad next week, sending some to Eugene for the Oregon Relays on Friday and Saturday, and sending everyone else to Bellingham for Saturday's Western Washington Twilite meet – although this year, it will take playing during daylight hours, starting at 9:45 a.m. at Civic Stadium.
