NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament
West Regional
Brougham Pavilion/Seattle, Wash.
Friday, March 12, 2010
(No. 4 seed) Alaska Anchorage 69, (No. 5 seed) Cal Poly Pomona 50
ALASKA ANCHORAGE HEAD COACH TIM MOSER
(On the game)
“They’re really difficult to guard. They’re so different from what we see in the GNAC. They’re more athletic than anyone in our league. We had to make more adjustments to guard them.
“Right now, teams are having a hard time guarding Hanna (Johansson) and Kelsie (Gourdin) and Nikki (Aden). It’s hard to guard them when our perimeter is making shots.”
(On bouncing back from last Saturday’s loss to SPU)
“This is the second season. This is what we’re playing for. You see all these teams come in here, and it’s do or die. It’s just survive and move on, and we’re going to try to do the same tomorrow against whoever we play.”
(On Hannah Johansson)
“She has really started to come into her own. We’re fortunate to have her for another couple years. I’m expecting her to be one of the best players in the GNAC, if not in the country in a couple years.”
HANNAH JOHANSSON
(On the game)
“We started to play harder in the second half. We realized this is it, and we have to give it everything we’ve got. It’s a little bit different playing (someone we haven’t played before), but we’ve watched a lot of tape.”
(On her game)
“I didn’t think I played that well. I need to work harder on defense. But it’s good that we can play together as a team.”
CAL POLY POMONA HEAD COACH SCOTT DAVIS
(On the game)
“When they made their run in the second half, it was huge. We didn’t make a basket and we couldn’t stop them. You can’t give up 39 points against a quality opponent and expect to win in the second half.
“We played very hard in the first half to take a lead and I thought we handled their intensity in the first five minuets of the second half. But we just didn’t hit shots.”
